A recent survey found that owners spend about HK$2,062 (US$263) per month per cat, driven by a rapidly emerging “cat silver economy”. The Exhibition Group, organiser of the recent Hong Kong Cat Expo 2026, said the average monthly spending marked a 2.8 per cent year-on-year increase, with the growing proportion of ageing cats in the city expected to be a key driver of market growth in the coming years.
Adapting to climate change will be increasingly challenging as the weather worsens each year, Asia’s top climate scientist said in a wide-ranging interview with the South China Morning Post. Professor Ben Horton from Hong Kong’s City University also warned of “humanitarian disasters” as the world’s climate becomes more unstable and unpredictable. But despite Horton’s grim outlook, he remains hopeful that things can be turned around if action is taken promptly.

The revamped Terminal 2 (T2) at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) officially opened to travellers in May. Join architect and frequent traveller Jacqueline Chak, who once worked at Foster + Partners – the architecture firm behind the original design of Terminal 1 – as she walks through the new T2 facility with two officials from the Airport Authority Hong Kong: Tommy Leung King-yin, executive director of engineering and technical services, and Steven Yiu Siu-chung, executive director of airport operations.
Together, they explore T2’s structural features such as its feather-shaped roof and floating “tree columns” in addition to facial recognition technology now used at every security gate and the AI-powered self bag-drop machines that can process checked baggage in just 45 seconds.
Nearly 30 years after the construction of HKIA changed the way the world saw airports, T2 is set to continue that momentum and take the evolution of the city’s aviation hub into its next chapter.
