China has amassed vast “floating barriers” – stretching at least 200 miles – mobilising thousands of fishing vessels in a new threat to Taiwan. An animation created using ship-tracking data shows around 1,400 boats gathering in the East China Sea, in two recent operations that went largely undetected until now.Maritime analysts have warned that “a formation of this size and discipline has never been seen before.”The boats are seen forming wall-like parallel or L-shaped lines so dense, that some approaching cargo ships appeared to skirt around them or had to zigzag through.Such formations serve as a display of maritime coordination or a potential “gray-zone” blockade, known to be part of China’s harassment playbook at sea.
