On March 25th and 27th, Taiwan’s defense department detected nearly 30 Chinese military aircraft on combat patrols. Each day, six ships— including Type 052D destroyers and Type 071 amphibious landing ships— coordinated with the aircraft in what appeared to be a show of force aimed at blocking Taiwan. In response, Taiwan quickly scrambled more than 10 F-16Vs and several Mirage 2000-5s, successfully pushing the Chinese jets out of its air defense identification zone. On March 27th, around 1,500 people took part in a national defense exercise in Tainan, with President Lai Ching-te declaring that “every citizen is a soldier,” as 170,000 active-duty troops and 400,000 reserves were placed on high alert.Join this channel to get access to perks:

This is a “Mulberry harbour” used for the D-Day landings in France in 1944. It’s an artificial port, made up of floating roadways and pierheads, resembling a bridge: all prefabricated in the UK and towed to France. Eight decades later, China appears to have built something similar. Pictures have emerged of these hybrid ships and how they connect together into a giant causeway. The images are from HI Sutton of Covert Shores who broke the story. The fear is Beijing will use them to transport troops and tanks onto the beaches of Taiwan. Should China attack Taiwan, can Taipei count on the military support of the U.S., its main security backer? And is Taiwan’s survival still in the interests of the United States?

By mid-March, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had repeatedly sent large groups of military aircraft and warships to harass the Taiwan Strait, reigniting concerns that these drills could escalate into real combat.
