Fourteen-year-old Intan Permatasari is among millions of Indonesian children suffering from obesity. Health experts say that while the nation’s obesity rate has doubled in the past 10 years, it is still not widely recognised as a major health problem. The country now faces a “double burden” of rising obesity as well as persistent undernutrition. Combined, the problems affect 20 per cent of Indonesia’s 60 million school-age children.
