China’s e-commerce platform Taobao is celebrating so-called “uglies” – products that deviate from mainstream aesthetics. The company is holding an art exhibition in the Chinese city of Hangzhou, featuring 30 installations and more than 500 products listed on Taobao. Many of the items deviate from the great value-for-money and factory-produced merchandise that are commonly associated with the platform. Taobao is owned by Alibaba, which is also the parent company of the South China Morning Post.
