Nepali soldiers are fighting through mud and debris to save 100 workers trapped in a tunnel in the Rasuwa district of Nepal on Friday. The workers fled to a passageway at a hydropower project to escape a rushing wall of ice, rock and water two days ago. Torrential rain has triggered severe flooding and landslides in Japan’s Ishikawa and Toyama prefectures, where thousands of residents were left stranded without power. Authorities issued the highest rain alert and advised over 380,000 people to evacuate. Relatives of missing persons from the catastrophic mudslide and flash flood along the Himalayan border of Nepal and China continue to wait for news of loved ones. About 500 people were confirmed dead as of Friday morning. Among the over 1,000 people unaccounted for following the disaster on Wednesday are more than 540 tourists from India, the US and two dozen other countries.
