Rescuers on Saturday restored the first sharp-curve section on China’s national highway G216, preparing for full reopening of the critical lifeline to the disaster-hit border port of Gyirong in Tibet. The road had been completely destroyed by the flash flood caused by a high-altitude glacial collapse in Nepal on August 26. The torrent of water, ice, rock and debris slammed into Gyirong port and caused widespread damage as it moved downstream.
