In Manila, pets get their special annual blessing

Every year on October 4, Catholics celebrate the feast of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals, by bringing their pets for a special blessing. Parishioners in Manila lined up on Sunday for the priest to sprinkle holy water on their pets, which included dogs, cats and a snail. The special annual blessing is to honour St Francis’ call to respect and care for all of God’s creation.

Parents arrested after young girl made to carry beer

Hong Kong police have arrested the parents of a 10-year-old girl after viral videos showed her carrying heavy bags of beer and being berated by an adult believed to be her father. The images also indicate the girl was in a school uniform and the man identified as her father was heard confronting bystanders who voiced concern about her welfare.
