South Korean city goes viral with Yung Lean parody

A South Korean city has been releasing quirky promotional videos in a bid to attract visitors. Its latest clip features the city’s senior officials performing a viral dance from the hit music video of the song Storm II by GENER8ION and Yung Lean.

Japan’s workaholics race to fall asleep

Dozens of participants fitted with sleep-tracking devices competed in Tokyo’s “Matt Race” to see who could nap the fastest and deepest. Organised by a mattress company, the event offered over two million yen (US$12,700) in prizes while spreading awareness of chronic sleep deprivation in overworked Japan.

Seoul says North Korean mines injured soldiers at DMZ

South Korea’s military has released a video it described as showing a mine exploding Monday during an operation to clear mines along its tense border with the North. Seoul has been working to remove explosives after three of its soldiers were hurt in a September 21 blast it blamed on a North Korean mine in the inter-Korean demilitarised zone (DMZ). South Korea says the North has been placing mines in areas that violate a truce between the nations. Pyongyang has dismissed the accusations and rejected Seoul’s call for an apology.

Sincere to close 126-year-old Central department store

After 126 years of retail history, Hong Kong’s first Chinese-owned department store will close its historic branch in the city’s central business district in December. Sincere is seeking a new venue in the same business district to set up after the closure in December. The company’s Mong Kok outlet will meanwhile be its sole bricks-and-mortar store in the city.
