The Chinese president is making his first state visit to the US in over a decade. Accompanied by US First Lady Melania Trump and Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan, the leaders looked at historical documents, including the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, the US Bill of Rights and other items relating to the US-China relationship. Chinese President Xi Jinping and first lady Peng Liyuan returned to the White House on Friday morning for tea with US President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump. The visit followed a day of meetings on Thursday, during which the leaders discussed issues including trade, the war in the Middle East, AI and strengthening bilateral relations. A ânew joint arrangementâ on trade was reached after a new round of negotiations between US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to Chinese state media. Xi is making his first state visit to the US in more than a decade and met Trump for the first time at the White House. The leaders reportedly also discussed the war in the Middle East, AI and Taiwan in their closed-door meeting at the Oval Office on Thursday. In speeches, both leaders spoke positively about their friendship and stressed the need for cooperation between the two countries. Chinese President Xi Jinping broke into rare laughter as his US counterpart Donald Trump showed him a framed âautopenâ displayed in place of his predecessor Joe Bidenâs portrait. The viral moment during a White House tour stood out against the Chinese leaderâs otherwise restrained demeanour during his first state visit to the United States in more than a decade.
