Nepal digs mass graves for unidentified flood victims

Nepali authorities have converted a forest in the scenic Chitwan district into a temporary burial ground for unidentified victims of last week’s devastating flash floods. Authorities said DNA samples were collected from each body and the gravesites were carefully recorded, allowing for remains to be exhumed if the deceased can be identified later. Meanwhile, search and rescue efforts in Nepal have increasingly focused on freeing hundreds of workers believed to be trapped in tunnels linked to several major hydropower projects.
