China’s BYD, the world’s largest electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer, released the AI on-vehicle drone system “Lingyuan” in collaboration with DJI, the country’s top drone maker.The drone system, which consists of a docking station on the roof, enabling the drone to take off, charge and track EV travels, can be integrated into all BYD’s EV models. Chinese researchers claim they can now detect even the stealthiest submarines—posing a new challenge to U.S. naval supremacy.China has shifted the game by exploring new methods that focus on magnetic detection—an area where submarines cannot easily hide.As a submarine moves through water, it produces a V-shaped surface disturbance known as a Kelvin wake. This disturbance generates a faint magnetic field when ions in seawater interact with the Earth’s geomagnetic field. A revolutionary method for detecting submarines involves analyzing the magnetic fields created by submarine. Other breakthroughs include electromagnetic wave detectors and even airborne “ghost radar” technology capable of emitting low-frequency waves to penetrate seawater and detect submarines hundreds of meters below the surface.
