This disparity has led to frequent online discussions about China’s machine tool industry. Two commonly cited arguments are the “manufacturing collapse theory,” which suggests that if China loses access to foreign machine tools, its manufacturing sector would struggle, and the “defense collapse theory,” which argues that without Japanese machine tools, China would face challenges in producing aircraft carriers and fighter jets.
