Amid the escalating U.S.–China trade war, Europe’s vigilance toward Chinese technological capital has also intensified. Nexperia, a semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in Nijmegen (NEY-meh-huh), the Netherlands is owned by Chinese company, Wingtech Technology. Out of concern Nexperia might transfer semiconductor manufacturing operations to China, the Dutch government forcibly took control of the company—prompting a retaliatory export control response from Beijing. This shift from passive review to active intervention marks the beginning of a Cold War–style confrontation in China–Europe tech relations
