But don’t let its modest size fool you—this modern station is incredibly advanced, both on the outside and within. We’re all quite familiar with life aboard the ISS, so we think we know what living in space looks like. But trust me—once you see how the Chinese crews live inside the Tiangong, it might just change your perspective entirely.Astronauts revealed Life Inside China’s Space Station BETTER & ADVANCED than NASA & SpaceXThe Tiangong space station currently consists of three interconnected modules arranged in a T-shaped configuration, orbiting approximately 400 kilometers above Earth. At its center is the Tianhe Core Module, which links two laboratory modules named Wentian and Mengtian. The cool thing is, although the external diameter of Tiangong’s modules is nearly identical to that of the modules on the International Space Station—about 4.2 meters—the interior of Tiangong feels noticeably more spacious. This impression comes from its modern layout and more efficient use of available space. So, let’s look at the inside of the core module first. The Tianhe Core Module, the first to be launched, forms the backbone of the entire station. It is divided into several interconnected sections. The node cabin serves as a central docking hub, while the life control cabin is split into a larger and a smaller segment. The smaller section houses the astronauts’ living quarters, including their sleeping and hygiene areas, along with fire control systems, onboard computers, and communication equipment. Connecting the living compartment to the rear docking area is the resource cabin, which supports various operational systems. Surrounding these internal sections is an unpressurized service area that contains the station’s main engines, propellant tanks, power systems, and parts of the communication network.Astronauts revealed Life Inside China’s Space Station BETTER & ADVANCED than NASA & SpaceXInside the core module, six zones have been set up for the astronauts – for work, sleep, sanitation, dining, healthcare, and exercise, all fully covered by Wifi.Like I mentioned earlier, one of the big differences with Tiangong is how modern the tech is. A lot of systems are wireless, so they don’t need to run a messy spider web of cables like you see on the ISS. Plus, a lot of the tech is hidden behind plain white panels when it’s not being used, which makes everything look super clean and sleek.
