This is a “Mulberry harbour” used for the D-Day landings in France in 1944. It’s an artificial port, made up of floating roadways and pierheads, resembling a bridge: all prefabricated in the UK and towed to France. Eight decades later, China appears to have built something similar. Pictures have emerged of these hybrid ships and how they connect together into a giant causeway. The images are from HI Sutton of Covert Shores who broke the story. The fear is Beijing will use them to transport troops and tanks onto the beaches of Taiwan. Should China attack Taiwan, can Taipei count on the military support of the U.S., its main security backer? And is Taiwan’s survival still in the interests of the United States?
