The Philippines’ Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed that China has detained three Filipinos for alleged espionage, two of whom were beneficiaries of a Chinese scholarship program in Hainan.Established under the 2017 Sisterhood Agreement between Hainan, China and Palawan, Philippines, the program provided full scholarships to Palaweño students at Hainan Normal University from 2018 to 2022.
