During this year’s Beidaihe meeting of the Chinese Communist Party, various rumors have been intensively circulating online. The latest rumor is that a military coup occurred in Beijing, forcing Xi Jinping to resign from his positions as General Secretary and Chairman while he was at the meeting. Another rumor is that a temporary leadership group has been formed, Xi’s works are being pulled from the shelves, and the CCP urgently dispatched the 82nd Army to Beijing, all of which seem to suggest that a storm is brewing. Now, the rumors of Xi losing power are spreading not only within China but also to Taiwan and Japan. Is this merely a rumor or prediction?

There are wild rumors flying out of China right now. There were rumors of this before, in 2022 which I debunked, but now there is a new one.

China’s “new flying fish” Pan Zhanle, who clinched two gold medals at the Paris Olympics, disbanded his only official Weibo fan group on August 12, 2024. Pan’s decision has been praised as a knock against the growing escalation of so-called fandom culture, which many believe has eroded traditional sportsmanship.

China recently launched the first 18 satellites for its “Thousand Sails” internet megaconstellation with a Long March 6A rocket. These satellites are part of China’s broader plan to deploy up to 14,000 satellites to provide global broadband coverage, similar to initiatives like SpaceX’s Starlink.

On June 25, three mysterious Chinese students, aged between 30 and 49 and from different backgrounds, appeared on a mountain in Busan, South Korea. They were focused on a massive sight at the Busan Operations Base of the South Korean Navy’s Operations Command: the U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Roosevelt.#chinaobserver

China’s Economic Woes Continue, Foreign Investors Pull Record Amount | Vantage with Palki SharmaForeign investors have pulled a record amount of money from China. Reports say $15 billion was withdrawn between April and June. This comes amid China’s growing efforts to reassure foreign investors and attract more investment. An intensifying trade war with the west, and sluggish growth of the Chinese economy have made several investors nervous about China’s economy. The high debt levels of local governments are also seen as a major risk. Palki Sharma tells you more.—

On July 23, Foxconn, a subsidiary of the Taiwanese company Hon Hai Technology Group, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the Henan provincial government for a new business project. Foxconn plans to invest 1 billion yuan in Zhengzhou to build a new headquarters and seven centers. These will support industries such as electric vehicles, energy storage batteries, digital health, and robotics, aligning with Foxconn’s 3+3 strategy in China. Hon Hai started focusing on the 3+3 new businesses and expanding globally in 2019. The first phase of this new investment is set to be located in the Zhengdong New District, covering an area of about 700 hectares.#chinaobserver
