China’s military simulates precision strikes on Taiwan after island’s leader returns from US visit

China’s People’s Liberation Army began its third day of military drills in the Taiwan Strait on April 10, 2023, as part of the mainland’s “Joint Sword” exercises which began after a visit by Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen to the US state of California. Tsai met US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy during an April 5 stopover in Los Angeles on her way home from a 10-day tour of Central America.
