The Philippines elected Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in the spring of 2022, and some hoped this would usher in a new era of the Filipino-China relations, specifically the Philippines sticking up for itself in the South China Sea. However those hopes have been dashed after Marcos Jr’s recent visit to Beijing.
